Creating Parking Facility Cultural Space

Creating Parking Facility Cultural Space

Among city infrastructures, there are approximately 33 public parking facilities in Seoul. It could be divided into two types: parking facility near mountain and parking facility on flatland. The scale of parking facility near mountain is small and it is located at the very end of the road. The scale of parking facility located on flatland is relatively large and located adjacent to major arterial roads of the city.

Jeongneung-dong bus public parking facility is located near mountain area and adjacent to dead-end of road. This reveals typical characteristics of residential area near city boundary. Dead-end of the road is commercially vitalized as it is the starting point of hiking trail, but it is inevitable for being vulnerable compare to city center as it is geographically isolated from urban public facilities. Innovative idea on accessibility, which considers vertical height as well instead of simply calculating horizontal distance on plane, is required.

Competition was a restricted competition which is targeting domestic and international architects under age of 45 and also this is a proposed competition that can select outstanding designer by evaluating proposals on abilityof achievement.

We designed stencil-like typeface and icons to highlight two important parts of the design competition: that the Competition is targeting young architects and that the site was a public facility.

Green and blue, the key colors of Seoul's bus routes, are used on a black, grey and white color base reminiscent of roads and garages.
