Illusion Gate

Structure of Light and Color

Structure of Light and Color

Illusion Gate is a pavilion located at the Jamsil Sports Complex in Seoul. It serves as a secret passage, offering a non-daily experience within everyday life through its structure, light, and color. This pavilion is the starting point for both visual and spatial exploration, where a dreamy atmosphere is created by the reflection and projection of light through infinite arches. The use of dichroic film introduces unique images of varying colors, which emerge through the interplay of light and reflection.

The site is situated in the heart of the Jamsil Sports Complex, about 300 meters away—roughly a 5-minute walk—from the main entrance. It occupies a triangular green space next to the swimming pool and indoor gymnasium. This space is typically perceived as a passage for visitors, with low visual perception due to the shadows cast by the surrounding trees. Our proposal is to create a high-vision pavilion that transforms this space.

The depth of emotional space created by the repetitive arches evokes a dreamlike experience, while the fantastic reflections of light harmonize with the surrounding nature.

Through modularity, it can be adjusted to fit the space, guiding visitors away from the everyday and into a dreamlike environment. By adding light and color to the lush trees and grassy areas, it transforms nature into a new experience, blending harmoniously with the surroundings.

Turning the Pavilion into a Story

We created a logotype for Illusion Gate and transformed the light and reflections of our pavilion into a book.
